My reasons, in order of prioity:
1. To make money, which I have done nicely.
2. To compete with "Wall Street" and the smartist minds in the world (my
opinion), i.e., to make money on wall street with all the parasitic insiders
and overhead costs that must be paid first is a real challenge. It's like Mt.
Everest, it's there to be conquered (which a close friend of mine, Barry
Bishop, did).
3. For the intellectual challenge that TA and MS programming offer.
4. Repeat #1.
On the other hand, I could turn my portfolio over to a broker and, with some
luck, watch it hold about even in this torrid bull maket. To me there is
nothing quite so personal as your own money. So, I keep it personal and trade
on my own stock selections. It works for me.
