Generally speaking, it
depends on what kind of markets you're trading. Myself, I'm into
the commodities markets, and here some commodities behave
differently, even within the same group. In the meat market, for
example, Pork Bellies is believed to be "non-elastic", which means,
it doesn't react or depend on fundamentals , supply and demand,
Gov. reports, etc.
I even think this market is rather manipulated by the "big guys".
On Tuesday ( 8-5 ), it opened at 7835, then, in less than FIVE
MINUTES it was down to 7655, 180 points, that's more than
$ 700 !!. And all this after a "supposed" up trend for five days
in a row. A "normal" market "shows" signs of weakness before
heading the other way.
Another opposite example is the Swiss Franc, a market that tends
to be "trendy". Today ( 8-8 ), for example, it opened ( in the
morning , not the Globex open ) at 6597, made a low of 6596 and
went all the way up to 6708 ( a difference in dollars of about $1400 ),
then retraced and closed at 6650.
I'm not familiar with stock market moves, but it's generally believed
stocks are not as volatile as some commodities like Bellies,
Lumber, Coffee, ( S&P?), Coffee, etc. Hope some of the MS members
into stocks can give you an overview about this.
Regards.

Efrain R Portales
Fort Worth, TX

----------
: From: Wolf Kettler <wolf_1@xxxxxxx>
: To: MetaStock List (E-mail) <metastock-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>
: Subject: SE Behaviour
: Date: Friday, August 08, 1997 8:34 AM
:
: On the London Stock Exchange we have recently experienced a situation where
: prices move up in the first half hour of trading and then remain more or less
: static for the rest of the day, with only slight gains or losses intraday,
: excluding the first half hour.
: Normally, I would expect to be able to ignore the first half hour of trading,
: when all overnight and last night's orders are fulfilled. Well, I'm sorry you only want to learn about one subject only. But in
case you hadn't noticed, buying stocks and options is what you use
MetaStock FOR.
When I discuss the trades I'm thinking about or making, I AM
discussing MetaStock.
What, you think all email on this list should be restricted to what
button to click on to get a 50-day Moving Average?
