Patrick --
I am neither "
someone with a background in the legal field", nor "one who has developed intellectual property", nor am I worried about what might happen if such practice were "carried to an extreme".  However, I applaud your response, for my own selfish reasons.

Though I am not presently a Pattern Explorer user, it might be something that I would like in the future.  Therefore, I do not want its author to become discouraged from continuing with its development and dissemination because it appears that others are taking unfair advantage of him or that his work is not as financial appreciated as it might otherwise be.  If sometime I do decide that PE might be for me, I would, of coarse, like the source code, so that I could modify it for my own uses, and not be stuck with a "black box" like so much other software that is available today.

Besides Pattern Explorer, I'm sure there are many other authors who are considering making contributions and hoping for some financial return as a result.  I do not want them to decide not to do so or to make their contributions more difficult to use because of fear of being ripped off.

Thank you,
-- Keith

Hi,

For the reasons explained below, I will not code the solution you requested.  As a work around for your original problem, why don't you just have a second pane with the MACD code above or below the Candlestick Recognition pane.  Yes, it won't be superimposed, but you can match up the information without problem.

First of all, you are using code that is sold commercially and protected by copyright, so posting it (and for myself, modifying it) is problematical. The Pattern Explorer Terms of Service (http://www.patternexplorer.com/terms-of-service.html , which you agreed to if you purchased the product) include the following:

    Unauthorized Use

You may not place any of our products, modified or unmodified, on a diskette, CD, website or any other medium and offer them for redistribution or resale of any kind without prior written consent from PatternExplorer.
The two main purposes of copyright protection are the protection of the author's right to obtain commercial benefit from valuable work and the protection of the author's general right to control how a work is used.  Posting code on a website, message board or in email breaches the author's rights as well as being redistribution prohibited by the the Terms of Service.  I purchased Pattern Explorer, so I can run the code you posted, however someone else who does not have the right to use the code may copy it from your posting, which would constitute redistribution.  (I realize that it will not run "as is" because of dependent coding however that is not the point, the author's work is what is protected, not the results of running it).

Second, assuming you have purchased a license for Pattern Explorer code, you have their support link (in the code you posted )and that should be where you ask your question (or obtain permission to post the code).  The Terms of Service do allow you to modify their code to fit your purposes.

I realize that I may be in a minority (as evidenced by the proliferation of bit torrent apps for "sharing" intellectual property) and may be flamed for my advocacy of individual rights over personal gain.  However both as someone with a background in the legal field as well as one who has developed intellectual property, I support the law and individuals' intellectual property rights (copyright, patent and trademark).  Under the Copyright Act it is not necessary for someone to obtain a copyright or place a copyright notice or symbol on the property to be afforded the protections of copyright law.  When someone develops intellectual property and puts users on notice that the property is copyrighted, their wishes should be respected.  Carried to an extreme, ignoring intellectual property protection may result in no one producing intellectual property as most are not eleemosynary when it comes to spending significant time and effort.
