BHP is listed in the US & Australia 

so the AU one is ASX:BHP and the BHP on its own is the NYSE one.

I use Google. I have BHP in my list of stocks. I did not put the ASX: before the symbol. I get my symbol list from IQFEED. It included BHP. I use AMIQUOTE to get the initial data and update it daily.
