In AmiBroker you do the other way round.
The LAYOUT is a "master" control that loads entire layout with associated symbols.
Metastock concept is very limited because it does not store multi-window floating/docked
layouts.
In AmiBroker you have way more flexibility. You can create MULTIPLE windows
each having DIFFERENT indicator set and different parameters and switch
using very convienient MDI tabs http://www.amibroker.com/guide/h_customizeui.html#MDITABS
or create many layouts (switching layout is
as quick as switching symbol - just DOUBLE CLICK.)
The first thing to use AmiBroker is to *forget* about limits of other platforms.

Subject: [amibroker] Possible to have different set of indicators "per symbol"?
