I am just guessing but I would bet writing the help section is probably the least enjoyable part of updating the program for Tomasz. However, if you look at the progression of the help overtime Tomasz has made a great effort in not only expanding the description of new functions but also including additional examples within the text and additional concepts in the KB.  We will always have the debate  between more experienced users wanting Tomasz to spend his valuable time on programming versus the beginners wanting more simplified help. I for one and amazed at the level of help this forum provides while still maintaning what Dennis described as "civility." Pretty remarkable when you consider the number of members and the difference in native languages  and cultures. Sure every once in awhile you have to take a tongue lashing or deserve a "look in the help files" response, or even have a "one liner zing" from "D" or Fred. However, I will take those all day long when you realize how much both of them and other over time have contributed to the forum and advancement of AB.

As an aside........I loved Tomasz's comment of "I can't write it because things are too obvious for me and I can't see with "beginners eyes...", because I finally got my revenge on a friend who is a very accomplished programmer who when I sometimes ask for some help or clarification of a programming concept rolls his eyes in frustration as he yells at me "this is so obvious!!" when explaining it to me for the third time.  He wanted to build a piece of furniture as a gift for his wife so I led him out to the shop and showed him the stack of lumber and all the tools and said..."have at it, it should be obvious how to put it together." The look of horror was priceless.   Even when you have the best "tools" knowing all the many ways they can be used takes time to master. I can conceptualize the building of a piece of furniture in my head from rough lumber to finished piece down to the last joint and screw but I struggle to conceptualize code to create the process to produce the results I want to see.  However, thanks to the patience and the members in this forum my "rookie, newbie, beginner, dumb," questions are slowly turning into occasional help to others who were once in my shoes.  I appreciate the past help and thank you in advance ( and beg for your patience) for the stupid question that will inevitably spring forth in the future.

Hello,

You simply need a beginners book.
Howard Bandy is writing one.

I can't write it because things are too obvious for me and I can't see with "beginners eyes", sorry.

Best regards,

Subject: [amibroker] Finding Information

For me, the greatest advance that AB could make is to enable me to use what I have.  I know of no other program that offers even close to the possibilities of AB yet often even the simplest things consume a large amount of time to solve.  For example, the tooltip is displaying a lot of information that is not really needed.  No problem, I type in "tooltip" in the "help" search and get the following under preferences:

Price data tooltips
if checked small tooltips will appear when you hover over the chart displaying selected bar date, prices / indicator values

That is exactly what I want but it doesn't work.  Somewhere there is another "modifying" command that will not allow me to see the Open and Close prices, but where?  This then is the start of hours of searching - or the initiation of this e-mail to the forum for help.  Will I get a comment such as "Read the documentation stupid."?

Again, the single greatest advance to AB would be to simply be able to use what we already have, not some new programming with inadequate and dispersed documentation.  Perhaps Howard would write a "How To" book on AB.

PS - Would also appreciate help with the tooltips thing.
