Anthony Y. Re your PM. Apologies for a late reply - I don't follow my
public mailboxes closely.
Re getting KL data into AB.
Generally:
- the basics are explained in the AB Help manual
(DatabaseManagement), the AB KnowledgeBase (Data) and the Users'
Knowledge Base (Data OR DatabaseManagement).
- Malaysian data is stored in the Yahoo Main Servers so as long as
you add .KL to the symbols you can use standard AB adn AmiQuote
methods to download for Malaysia (similar for Singapore)
- you can get ticker lists from all sorts of places. I gave some
examples for Singapore stocks in the thread in this forum
(refer "Live Quotes API" starting at message # 126992)
Typically exchanges are a very good place to get ticker lists OR from
the holdings lists published by ETF owners.
example:
Bursa Malaysia
http://www.klse.com.my/website/bm/
go to the site ---> listed companies ---> Mainboard ---> there is a
list of companies there
Yahoo has data for some of those companies.
- some lists are in CSV form (OR CSV files can be made from a webpage
by copy pasting) refer to the AB resources above for help with making
CSV files and ASCII import into AB
Specifically Yahoo Malaysia:
- Malaysia doesn't have a Yahoo finance site
- as an example we can use Australia
http://au.finance.yahoo.com/investing
go to the investing TAB ---> click on worldmarkets ---> click on Asia-
Pacific and you will get a list of the main Asian indices
click on ^KLSE (you can do the same for any indice) ---> click on
components (you will get a list of the stocks in the index) --->
clikc on the "download to spreadsheet"link at the bottom of the page
and save as CSV to your local drive ---> ASCII import to AB
once you have that list in AB you can download directly from the
Yahoo historical server using Amiquote.
Some detail on Yahoo asia:
if you click on a symbol in the ^KLSE list it will say no chart
available where the intraday chart usually is BUT if you enter the
symbol number directly into the get "quote" input box ---> enter -->
you will then get the intraday quotes
- if you search this forum for Yahoo RT you will find threads that
explain how to get delayed intraday quotes into AB using AmiQuote (I
recently posted on how to do this for EOD databases - if you create a
new 1 minute database you can also get a type of 1 minute delayed
snapshot charts, of Asian markets, using the same method).
- there is also data available on Asian stocks that are not in the
indexes .
go to the au Yahoo site ---> symbol lookup ---> search for a company
name from the bursa Malaysia site e.g. Bonia Corp ---> the search
returns 9288.kl --> enter 9288.kl to the Yahoo get "quotes" box -->
enter and you will get a chart for it ---> click on historical data
on the quotes page and you will see that data goes back to 2003 (you
can download it if you enter 9288.kl into AmiQuote)
another example 9679.KL
WCT ENGINEERING BHD
Yahoo/AmiQuote/AmiBroker is a very good combination for small
traders, especially those who live outside of the US.
Please post questions in this forum so others can also benefit from
the answers.
Basic questions are OK.
Maybe you wont always get an answer, if people are busy, but it is
always the best place to start.
Good trading.
