Re: [amibroker] Re: [OT] Best Quad-Video card for Vista?

Hello,

Actually, AmiBroker was multi-monitor aware for years (it stored correctly window positions for all "floating" windows (like Automatic Analysis,
RIsk Yield, Review, Formula Editor, all docking panes).
What arrived recently (5.02) is ability to "float" chart windows and move them OUTSIDE main window frame, like other floating windows mentioned.
And of course their position is stored correctly in multi-monitor setups.

As for "application notes for hardware" setup - well AmiBroker is not that demanding. Any PC capable of running Windows (even 95) is able to run AmiBroker.

For optimum performance, as much RAM as you can have and CPU with fast floating point unit (Intel Core 2 or Athlon family).

For graphics - it is not that relevant as regular GDI is used for charts and any card will do, but for 3D optimization graphics NVidia cards are best performers.

When you are looking for 4 monitor setup: actually you don't need quad video card.
You can use 2 cards each having 2 DVI outputs (for flat panels). Remember that DVI is superior to analog output as DVI gives maximum sharpness.
If you are using 2 cards, make sure your main board can handle 2 PCI EXPRESS (avoid old AGP) graphic cards and make sure the cards are the same
(the same manufacturer and same model) to avoid driver conflicts. That way single driver installation will handle both cards at once.

Thanks,

Some application notes on the optimum hardware setup for Amibroker would be useful...perhaps one day... I think many of us are not enjoying full Amibroker performance because its crippled by a bad hardware setup. If you feel you are in this situation you may endorse my suggestion at http://www.amibroker.com/feedback/view_bug.php?bug_id=1461

I think Tomasz posted recently that TRUE multi-monitor operation is now implemented, including having windows reappear in their last position. However, I can't find the post right now...

My main computer setup is for development. For development I may run a dozen different applications and I like to see most of them open all the time. A proper development setup more than doubles productivity... and makes it a lot more fun.

My trading setup is simple, just a laptop with an extra monitor. All I need is there is for Amibroker to place orders (through the IBc), and the TWS to see they get to IB. I need no charts for trading.

Best regards,

Herman
