Much appreciated.

I tested out the relevant feature of WP 2.5.1.

The media upload section is improved with some additional info and 
input fields relating to the uploaded file (it is similar to the 
previous version of WP).

As you say, some file types are restricted by WP and need to be 
zipped - (I uploaded an unzipped excel file  but had to zip a text 
file).
