I am always around, off and on, so don't sweat it.

BTW I have already put my bet on firewall or installation issues but 
I want to get the info off your setup before you do a reinstall - 
anyway it is a good education (Louis gets a free ride too!)

Good try but you didn't fully understand.

For your own benefit you can view the files from inside AQ - it is 
just your OS file manager being used by AQ - you need to select *All 
Files* in the Open dialog box.

Anyway - do it from Windows Explorer or equivalent - "Download" is 
the folder used by AQ (or the eqivalent if you are not a Windows 
user).

Have another look in there - this is important because if you have 
the files there then you downloaded them - if the files are not there 
then you have a firewall or OS issue OR you sent them somewhere else.

I think you nailed it yourself - I was already betting on an 
installation issue.

If you want to confirm if it is firewall, or installation, do another 
download test (data_test3) and add a non-existent symbol to the 
ticker list e.g. AAAAAA

If AmiQuote tells you that you have an "Error during download" then 
you know for sure you have a connection to the Yahoo server.

I am still interested in how you get on but I can't do anymore for 
you and you would save yourself some grief if you went back to AB and 
talked to them about the uninstall v5.0  - reinstall v 4.8.

BTW - I understand Tomasz supports older versions and maintains 
backward compatibility, for those who want it, but really AB is cheap 
and you are missing some good new features if you don't buy the 
upgrade.

Summary:

I am 99.99999% convinced you have an installation issue.
