Hello,
I am running on Vista myself, without any issues. And I am doing since very early Vista pre-release versions.
If you don't want automatic backfill, go to
File->Database Settings->Configure
and uncheck "automatic backfill on first data access" box.
You may also downgrade to 5.05 BETA.
Remember you are using BETA versions.
If something does not work, revert to previous version, or to official release.
