Herman, a very useful and fast tool by Microsoft is robocopy. It's 
included in Vista, for other Windows version you get it via the Windows 
Resource Kit Tools from 
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9d467a69-57ff-4ae7-96ee-b18c4790cffd&displaylang=en .
There are some free GUIs for robocopy, e.g.

An overview over the robocopy syntax/options can be found, e.g., on 
http://www.ss64.com/nt/robocopy.html . You can automate what you want 
with a simple batch file.
