Don’t forget about the other major classification standard
too – Industry Classification Benchmark from Dow Jones/FTSE – quite
similar to that of GICS in terms of it being 4 levels and also numerical like
GICS (although it’s a 4 digit identifier – note that some start
with zero so it’s not really an integer but could be displayed as a zero
padded int).
Also, Yahoo seems to use their own classifications which I think is based upon
Hemscott – but there never seems to be any recognised indexes based upon
the Hemscott/Yahoo classifications.
