JMO, but I don't see how a trader/investor can have an "edge" over
anyone else using any published indicators. Sort of like reading about
a stock idea on the front page of your morning paper: If everybody
knows about it, how valuable is the tip?:)

AB has done two things for me: First, it's allowed me to subject
published indicators (and the "new" indicators/methods of assorted
gurus) to a fair test. The results were disappointing, but finding out
what doesn't work is also a part of research.

The second and more important thing that AB has done for me is allow me
to test data (and data combinations) that aren't so easily accessible as
to make them worthless. A recent example is the recession probability
indicator: If you know how likely/unlikely recession is, you also know
how likely/unlikely a major stock market correction (-15% or more) is
going to be. That tells you whether you should be looking for good
buying opportunities or good shorting opportunities during any
corrections.

Another example of what can be done with AB is to calculate not only
general market valuation (like SP500 PE, by using AB to import SP500
EPS), but also "real" (after-inflation) earnings (by using AB to import
CPI-U inflation data). Capabilities like these in AB have allowed me
to make my most valuable breakthroughs.
