[amibroker] Re: AB Newbie-Need help choosing data provider

Opinions about DTN data quality vary from person to person, I guess it just depends on what you trade. Some users here are even happy with Yahoo data, try it out, it's free.

Please keep in mind that AB keeps both intraday data and eod data for a given ticker in files with the same name and extension. Currently only eSignal and MarketCast-Australia allow mixing eod and intraday data in a single data file. With all other providers you basically need to run two instances of AB, one for intraday data and another for eod.

If you really want to have clean eod data and don't want to use eSignal then consider using high quality eod vendor like CSI, TC2000 or QuotesPlus, run daily data trough the spreadsheet program to convert the ticker format (it's usually needed for indexes, futures, non US stocks, etc.) and then use one of more affordable RT vendors. Of course in that case you would need to have two instances of AB running.

For me, all this is just a bloody nuisance compared with my "other software", so as I said, I don't use AB for RT monitoring, only for delayed analysis and eod. When I like the indicator I translate it to "other software's" DLL. Still not the perfect solution, because AFL is way better, but at this point I'm not willing to pay $500 per month for eSignal to get what I can get elsewhere for $45.
