In the past (back in 1987) I have built myself a microcomputer based on Z80 and
it had 2KB (kilobytes) of RAM and 2KB of ROM and it was plenty
of space (when you coded in assembler) :-)
Funny thing about it was that I could not buy parts in a shop because
no shop in Poland offered those so I had to buy them on 'bazaar' :-)
