RE: [amibroker] Corrupted Symbol Tree - AB 4.8 will not run - HELP!!

Now I suspect something else is corrupted in your data because
broker.master is simply a directory of your symbols. When it's missing
it just re-reads your database and recreates the directory. It seems
that it cannot properly read all of your symbols and/or it cannot
properly write the resulting broker.master to disk.

Unfortunately, I have no more suggestions from here except to work with
AB support.

Terry: thanks for replying, but for further learning, please note that I
first tried doing what you said, and something new happened.
Originally, AB
would open, status would say Filling Tree, and then the thing would
crash.
I moved (actually renamed) the broker.master file and restarted AB.
This
time it did not immediately crash. Rather I saw the symbols being
loaded
(some 14000+ of them), so it took some seconds. After they were loaded,
the
status said "Filling Tree" (althought it seemed to be filled) and then
the
program crashed. So, it rebuilt the file but "something" else was going
on
because it still crashed. I went to my backup and copied the
broker.master
from there and everything started normally. So rebuilding a new one did
not
seem to work in the way you describe and I do not know why. Again,
thanks
for replying.

In each database you have there are 3 files at the bottom of the list of
folders.
Broker.master is the key to symbols.
Broker.watch is your Watchlist.
Broker.workspace is your layouts.

Quit amibroker and move the first two files to your desktop/trash. Open
amibroker and select that database. The broker.master will rebuild
itself.
You'll have to rebuild your watchlists yourself. You might try just
moving
broker.master first and see if that fixes the problem.

Subject: [amibroker] Corrupted Symbol Tree - AB 4.8 will not run -
HELP!!

I have submitted an emergency request to Marcin, but believe my request
will
be well back in the line and I am wondering if anyone here has any
suggestions or has experienced this.

I am running (was running) 4.80.1 fine and decided to "clean up" my
watch
lists. I opened Organize Symbols, Watchlists and immediately noted that
the
lists of symbols in boxes on both sides had some non-ascii characters
displaying. Most were normal but the first and last usually were
computer
characters. I closed the Organize Symbols box and clicked on the symbol
tree tab, and AB crashed. I closed the program, and restarted it and
see a
status message "Filling Symbol Tree...Please Wait", then a msg appears
"Amibroker for Win32 needs to close." That's it. Won't run.

I tried reinstalling an earlier version and while the exe file for
4.79.5
ran ok (no errors), the same event happens when I try to start the
program.
Also the splash screen still shows 4.80.1 so the reinstall did not
change
anything.

I am not sure which file is corrupted, but can someone tell me if you
know
which file holds the watchlists. And do you know if I can delete it
(whatever the name) and the program will start with a fresh (but blank)
one.

Any help desparately needed as I am dead in the water.

Thanks,

Ken
