You mentioned a point I forgot to address.

I have the impression that the quality of DTN's streaming data is
better than eSignal's. That is, there are virtually no huge data
spikes, especially at the open or close. I also subscribe to TC2000
EOD data, which I also import into AB. Charts displayed using DTN's RT
data match TC2000 charts more closely than those using eSignal. 

Concerning the speed of data, it is difficult to separate streaming
speed from backfill updates, but I believe that eSignal's is faster.
On the other vhand, data updates via DDE into Excel is very fast.

The backfill issue is indeed the biggest problem.
