I was actually looking for the #include function. As I thought, I was
missing something completely obvious. Thanks for the reply though.

you do not need to pre-define a variable to use it.
xyz = (h+l)/2;
is all that is needed then to use that value later just use the variable
name
abc = xyz+2;
