Charles,
IMHO Intel's CPUs are currently NO match for dual-core AMD's.
Even dual-core Intel is lagging behind, but more important is their thermal
envelope (heat dissipation, 110-150W) - they are running very, very hot!
In contrast dual-core Athlon64 is easy to keep in the 30-40 degrees
(Celsius) even under heavy loads, so good air cooling will do. And they
still will outperform Intel.
Piecewise, Intel's solution will set you back $100-200 more (specially the
motherboard and DDR2 memory) at lower performance points.
Doesn't make sense to go Intel right now, but if your choice is "Intel
inside" take a look at dual-cores, like 820D. I don't know if Dell is making
any dual-core desktops, have to check their site.
My honest recommendation still will be Athlon64 X2 (like 3800+ X2) on
Asus/DFI SLI motherboard (like Asus A8N32-SLI).
I have a feeling that we going OFF TOPIC here, so maybe we can rename this
discussion as OFF TOPIC or you can e-mail me private at ggen@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Subject: Re: [amibroker] Graphics performance question
What I discovered that is curious to me is that the CPU usage is involved in
displaying the charts, not running the AFLs. My CPU usage ranges from 40-70
percent max when AB is minimized -- the autotrading is working fine. But
when I maximize AB the CPU goes immediately to 100%
In any case, I'm going to need a deskop! How would the following specs from
Dell compare to a dual core Athlon64?
Description: Dell Dimension 5150 Series. Intel(r) Pentium(r) 4 Processor
630 w/HT Technology (3.0GHz,800FSB)
Is the the dual-core from Intel a lot faster than a P4?
Thanks!
chuck
