Generally, I keep Flash disabled. Of course, sometimes you want to
see something that requires it, and fortunately there is a rather
painless answer: Put the two attached files someplace convenient on
your system (XP Pro is what I use and these files are only guaranteed
for that system), then double-click the 'disable' file to stop Flash
from flashing, but still leaving it on your system. Double-click the
'enable' version to turn all the diversions back on. ^_^
(You will have to close all instances of the browser and reopen it
before either of these registry files will take effect. I recommend
close the browser first, enter the reg file, then reopen.)
I am surprised, however, how well I can live without Flash, enabling
it maybe one day a month for one thing or another, and then
immediately disabling it again. YMMV. When it first came out it was
a novelty, and sometimes interesting. Now, it is 99 percent
annoyance to me.
As you can see from looking at both reg files, the disable version
simply adds a compatibility flags dword that disables Flash, and the
enable version removes it. I forgot where I got these from, but I
have been using them for years without a hiccup or a burp.
It's really nice to be able to read text without a host of things
bouncing around all over the peripherals of the screen, and sometimes
even in the middle of the text itself.
