I had the same questions about the system
usage history not going over 50% but I discovered that if hyperthreading
is on there are two panes showing under the
performance window of Windows Task Manager. When I
run IO for 10-20 minute optimization
runs I will definitely see a split in activity, both panes are not tracing Usage
history
at the same level and so I'm led to think that there is some 'splitting'
of computer cycles is going on. With
IO optimization one side
runs up to 62% and the other in the 30 to
40% on a 3.3 GHZ Intel P4 motherboard with XP Pro.
I was also led to understand, I believe on this forum, that if
the hyperthreading is not enabled you will see only one pane in
the Performance display, a quick easy way to
see if your setup is correct.
Now while I mostly understand TJ's
point about software being needed to exploit the hyperthreading, I do experience
other benefits of having
the HT feature, like at times
when there is no performance impact on surfing the web,
editing, updating the data base, indexing the QP database or downloading
data while I'm optimizing, which what I
think this hyperthreading technology was developed for. Media
machines?
Best regards
Joe

Hi Ara,
On my computer, the BIOS allows you to turn
hyper-treading mode on or off (enter Setup when rebooting). Maybe you
could try this and see if you get better results?

Ara,
This is because you are running it on
"hyperthreading" CPU.
On normal CPU it uses 100%.
"Hypertreading" CPU can not be fully used
unless software is written specifically for it.

Subject: [amibroker] Optimization -
CPU usage
Running an optimization, I notice than AB
uses 50% (steadily) of CPU time, with rest being system idle process or
system.
It seems it should be able to utilize more
than 50% when nothing else is going on.
Running on Win2000 with P4 and
hypertheading.
Anyone experienced / solved
this?
Thanks
Ara
