ron,

I have not done any afl programming, but I was thinking that perhaps you can use the string functions to always access the unchanging part of  the futures symbols so that it always the same, just the data changes when you roll to a new month.

thanks for the reply--

yes, this is referring to future contracts which expire---some every
month--- it's the month letter i must change in more than 12
chart/indicators now--and maybe more to come.

I have each sheet set to a different future-- 6e, zb, er2 etc.  on the sheet
is a chart, and 3 or 4 indicators.  each indicator then can be changed for
the ma periods i want--as an example.  each sheet's chart/indicators have a
SetForeign followed by the full IB symbol, so when i click a sheet of the
S&P, i see all the info i want for that symbol, and then EUR, i see what i
want.  so this means every sheet must have 4 or 5 files edited each time a
contract expires....  and maybe 6-8 sheets. and crude expires every month.

i just want a cross reference table  where i can say er2u5-globex-fut is
equal to R2K.  and all my charts/indicators would have SetForeign("R2K") for
the er2 symbol, but would be linked to 1 instance of the real symbol.  so
when a contract expires, all i have to do is change the "real" symbol in 1
place.  does that make sense??

i know this is confusing-- cuz i don't fully understand what i can really do
in afl.

ron,

Assuming you are referring to futures, the first 2 letters of your symbol do
not change.

thanks for the reply,
yea i remember--but that was for database and merging the expiring contract
with the new one.

my request for some help is so i don't have to change the SetForeign symbol
every 3 months in 10 or charts/indicators.  I have specialized indicators
for the different symbols and changing them is a pain...

i'd like someway to cross reference a current symbol (which will change
every 3 months) to an "alias" symbol.  the alias would be the one used in
the SetForeign.

Hi Ron
Something similar was covered a few weeks back. From memory they
decided to create a NEW ticker with the NEW symbol every three months
and then use the Symbol>Merge function to merge it with the previous
symbol.
