hi,
I think the low price of Amibroker is also reflects the risk for the user. Amibroker stands with it's creator and therefor can also fall if it's creator falls. Heaven forbid but if TJ is run over by a bus it makes years of investments into the AFL language useless for it's current users. You will have to find another program when that happens because soon you will not be able to link the program to QP2, eSignal etc anymore.
So even though Amibroker might be superior to other similar programs (which of I can't make a judgement) the risk for the user is also higher. Also in comparison with Mathlab or IDL (which I know): it would be fantastic to have all this functionality, working with multiple dimensional arrays and multple arrays functions (for starters) but AFL is still way behind these type of languages and it will take years and years to catch up in my opinion (even with a team working on it).
This doesn't mean I do not agree with the price increase, because I do agree. But I understand that this program does not cost $3000 yet.

Subject: [amibroker] What about life-long license? (Re: Weak dollar - rise in selling prices)
Hi Tomasz,
You're too modest. AB is still WAY underpriced for what it offers,
specifically if you "discount the future", as investors should do.
With the upcoming upgrades of the (portfolio) backtester, in
particular the functionality to apply dynamic money-management/asset
allocation/multiple-currency handling, I personally have the fullest
confidence in AB's future. Therefore: is there an option to pay a one-
time life-long license?
For new/existing users:
In general, and for what it's worth, I do not compare AB with
TradeStation, Metastock, or WealthLab. It seems to me that such a
comparisson is like looking in the mirror to see how far behind they
are, knowing very well that it is highly unlikely they will catch up.
Instead, we should all look forward and make comparisons to packages
like KxSystems, FinMetrics (S-plus), EXPO, MathLab, MathCad, etc.
These are the type of applications which make highly advanced
charting/trading systems possible, and they can (and should) provide
the inspiration for Tomasz.
In other words, the future is bright and lies ahead. Look there for
ideas/suggestions to Tomasz, and forget the mirror.
