that is exactly my problem also. the tutorial has not offered a step by step explanation for newbies. and I can not find it in other sources. --- Wei

I hope the experienced Amibroker users here can help me out. I have just
downloaded a trial version of Amibroker. I am a long-time user of
Metastock, but I have recently become dissatisfied with the product,
especially because I now need to do a lot of system testing.
It is clear to me that Amibroker is a great program, one that is much
better for active traders and system developers. However....
I reviewed the AFL tutorial material which came with the program, and it
is not exactly designed for someone with absolutely no programming or
Excel knowledge whatsoever. I don't consider myself to be particularly
slow, but I found that the tutorials in the program itself very quickly
went above my head. For example, I wanted to construct a simple system
which would plot 1 when it triggered - I couldn't find a specific
explanation of how to do this. Luckily, the support for this product
seems exceptional, because an email request for help generated a
response within a few hours. I am sure, however, that they will not like
it if I send them 150 emails over the next 3 weeks asking for step by
step instructions for all the things I need to know (or am I wrong about
this?).
I have searched the site and other sources for the past few days and I
haven't found anything like 'Amibroker for Dummies' or any sort of
tutorial which takes a complete newbie through a step by step clinic in
how to code in AFL. Is anything like this available? Someone suggested
to me that the best thing I could do for myself would be to learn how to
use Excel first - is this true? Is it best that I learn a programming
language before trying to code in AFL?
I would be thrilled to buy the pro version of this obviously valuable
program but I need to know whether I will ever be able to make sense of
AFL before I do so. Again, research and long hours don't scare me - all
I need is a source of information, i.e. a very concise reference manual
or a person a Amibroker support who is willing to put up with me for the
foreseeable future as I ask 150 questions.
Any ideas? Thanks a lot.
