I can validate the points made by Nathan Berger.
I tried HQote for a while and it's "download speed" is a nightmare.
The new version 6.0 updates any Metastock files automatically - no
conversion necessary.
But :
Update of 3 days of historical data for 1000 symbols takes more than
90 minutes ( ADSL line ! )
After download, you'll find, that about 30% up to 50% of the symbols
are missing a day or even two worth of data. Even with repeated
downloads, it doesn't work. You cannot even sort the files with
missing data's as in previous versions of HQuote. If you try, the
program shuts down.
So one has to go manually over all files and check the ones with
missing data for a new download - of w´hich in the end another 50%
miss data.
HQuote downloades from Yahoo - like most of these "free or one time
fee" downloaders available on the net. Indipendently from the
download software itself, the Yahoo quote-service is not really very
reliable. Data holes and connection interrupts are very common.
I mailed their tech support several times about the downloading
problems and with every update it got worse. BTW - no repply from
them at all on any of my inquiries.
I don't know whether HQ is spyware - haven't got any messages from
adaware or spysweeper.
Anyhow - it's always the same - you get what you pay for.
I switched to TC2000 as a data provider and I'm happy with their
service. QP is also a very good alternative.
If you take TA and trading serious, you should consider having a
reliable data service, even if it costs a few bucks /month.
TC2000 annual EOD subscription is 297.- USD
QP is in the same range.
TC2000 offers some limited fundamental data along with their quotes
service and a very convenient scanning / screening software.
QP offers a very comprehensive range of fundamental data + HGSI's
warehouse module, which allows also for pre-scanning on fundamentlas
and technicals before applying further TA with Amibroker.
I think, 30,00 USD Month is not too much for a good , reliable data
service + the additional features you can use with TC2000 or QP
software.
After all, as a TA trader / Investor, the data is the basis for your
decisionmaking process and trade management. Why would you leave
this vital part to some unreliable service.

Stefan
