<span
>Hi Steve,
<span
>
<span
>Not sure if under mentioned solution is
what you are looking for but this is what I use to have two monitors hung off
the one computer to see multiple full screen windows off one software program
like AB. I do not profess to be a whiz at computer manipulation but the under mentioned
is pretty straightforward:
<span
>
<span
>My laptop has a graphics out port at the
back that allows me to plug in a second monitor and from Control Panel > Settings
I can extend my desktop across both monitors. I believe most laptops have this VGA
out port.
<span
>
<span
>My desktop has a “dual-head” graphics
card which has a second monitor out port at the back to plug in a second
monitor. Again, as with the laptop, to get the Operating System (XP Home on
laptop and XP Pro on desktop) to recognize the dual monitor set-up simply go to
Control Panel > Settings and choose extend my desktop. I guess you could try
and get hold of a PCI based graphics card and slot this in rather than buying a
more expensive “dual-head” graphics card as an alternative. Hope
the above helps.
<span
>
<span
>Now back to learning more about the wonderful
functionality of AB…

definitely no expert, but I think that Remote Desktop actually
does the opposite of what I want to do - rather than see both

but neither is equipped for multiple monitors, and I was wondering what my
options are for extending the desktop via the network connection. I think the
software you pointed out below looks like a pretty good solution - cheap
and easy : - ) Would you happen to know if there are other ways?
Thanks again!

(and not what I eventually want) I have 3 monitors hooked up to my main system,
Hulk, and that is networked to an older Dell P3 1ghz machine and a Dell
D400 Latitiude laptop which I can also hook up via a wireless connection.
That's all handled by a Nexland Turbo 800 Pro router that handles a crappy
Adelphia cable modem and a DSL connection that I had to get cause the cable
service is so bad.
<font size=3

<font size=2 color=blue

the 3 montiors (an old Nokia 21" Tube) shares duty right now on both Hulk
and the Dell via a KVM switch from IOGear. All I have to do is hit
the ScrLk twice and it will switch from one machine to the other. I tend
to run only long or unattended jobs on the old Dell so I don't need much in the
way of a monitor on that machine.

<font size=2 color=blue
face=Arial>I tried
to install Win XP's remote desktop (I think that's what its called) but it
didn't "take" so I backed off and I haven't persued it but that
would be the better way to go IMHO as you could have a small window on your
monitor that would show what's happening on the other machine(s). Its
free and built in so those are big plusses. If only I could get it to
work. 8-).

the laptop - I don't have it on all the time and don't really need a fourth
monitor right now as the 3 - 21" running at 1600x1200 give me plenty of
screen real estate. Plus the resolution on the laptop is pretty limited so its
value as a monitor would be small.
<font size=3

<font size=2 color=blue
face=Arial>As for
your situation if you want to use both monitors on both machines you could try
the remote desktop and see if you can get it to work or they make KVM's for
sharing one keyboard/video/mouse with multiple machines but I don't know about
1 keyboard/1 mouse/ 2 monitors with multiple computers.

Right now, I have 2 computers networked together, and I think I am
ready to implement some means of expanding my desktop so I will be able
to use both monitors off of 1 computer. It sounds like you have a
pretty good setup, so I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on doing
this via hardware vs. software, as well as any recommendations you might have
to offer. Thank you very much!
