Thanks to b, Tomasz for the tips - now it's crashing inconsistently:
sometimes it can complete a 200 combination run, sometimes not. On a
4000 trials run, it got to about 500 before crashing. Certainly the
Task Manager shows a lot less memory being used, but I have a good
amount (768MB) on my system and am far from the limit.

Another observation, possibly unrelated - once in a while, other
programs crash when AB crashes, like my softmodem driver and Mozilla.
 But not always.

Any other ideas?? Thanks,

kw
