I'm looking to quantify how smoothly a stock moves between two bars --
specifically, pivots. That may seem silly given all the formulas and
indicators out there, but seriously, I'd appreciate anyone's input as
to his/her favorite way of measuring that. For instance, if you look
at AMAT, with pivots 11/7, 11/21, 12/1 and 12/10, the stock is moving
fairly gracefully back and forth between the pivots. To me, that's
desirable. I think in terms of historical volatility, ATR, etc. --
but a) I'm not that great in Statistics and b) from "working with"
the people in this group, I know there are a few out there with
approaches I've never heard of.
