You were told correctly. This has been going around for some time
now actually, although this may be a new note. But I got one back in
May that claimed to be an IE service pack upgrade. Hit the delete
key and never looked back.
Actually, they might send an e-mail (text only), but they would
never, ever send an unsolicited attached file for maintenance or
upgrade to be done on your box.
