These same ocncerns ran through my mind at the start, and have been made at
various forums for longer and since. I have been using them for nearly 18
months. I used to pay $35 pmth (now plus GST I guess) and had to manually
correct for splits etc. That came to $420 pa. I did happen to get it on a
good special price of about $450 and am now way in front. Absolute free
downloads from now on, so if they do go belly up no great loss, for me
anyway (you can also get most major exchanges through them at no added cost)
Suggest you just try their free months trail. Can be set to auto download I
think, but I just click on one button and it updates a MS database which I
then use through the plug in. I have also asked them if possible to direct
link to AB database and have passed this to TJ for consideration as they
need to know how the databse works or some such computer type program thing.

Cheers,
Graham

Thanks Graham. I did give the trial a whirl last year, and while I didn't
really like the software itself much (looks like it may well have evolved
by now), I did like the flexibility of the data types and the number of
exchanges included.

However my biggest misgiving was the business model they apparently use. I
can't understand how they can guarantee themselves cash-flow (and therefore
continued operation) by charging a single up front fee (the cost equivalent
of 4 or 5 years data provided by more traditional subscription methods such
as Netquote and Cooltrader, though I note BF also has an alternative annual
subscription rate of $325/pa!). To my way of thinking, this means continued
viability of the feed is most likely afforded by the uptake of new
customers (who's gonna pay $325/pa?). Should the company suffer any
financial setbacks before value is actually delivered (which, as shown
above, takes some considerable time compared to other products), I see
little protection afforded the existing customer.

I am very interested in how you and others perceive this unusual business
model for an ongoing service.

Regards,

         Mark
