1. I have never seen such case as yours.
You should check your internet settings.
There must be some non-standard setting active
that blocks the display.
2. Your question is not clear. Both examples you have
given are syntactically OK, but I don't know what you
want to achieve therefore it is hard to answer.
If you could elaborate more on what exactly you would
like to calculate then I could help.
