Unknown identifier error message repeat

I have experienced this before, but now more often and it is exasperating.

I have mistyped a variable in a line, in a Plot statement, and of course get
a "Unknown identifier error" message box.

I click to close it and it pops right back open. It is impossible to apply
the correction because the error box is always popping up.

Anyone else experience this, and what did you do about it?
