I think you might be surprised about vb2.0 usage compared to 1.0.
If what I remember is correct, vb 1.0 is largely unoptimized and has
lots of redundent mysql querries (due to old vb 1.0 architecture).
Vb 2.0 is very optimized compared to 1.0.... I'm not sure about
specific case of 1.01 lite.
My suggestion would be for you to install 2.0 and see how it works.
After all, nothing is worth live tests, and since its a test, you can
still delete it if you don't want it. Give it a two weeks tests. Then
you can truly decide.
This is IMHO the best way to decide.
(as for email notification, I suggest you to disable them by default).
And after all, amibroker board will not be as populated as the
millions post gaming fans boards that cause troubles to hosts ;)
