Hello all:
There have been a number of questions recently about
obtaining end of day quotes, and assigning stocks to
industries/sectors.
I would like to make the following suggestion to those
who are using the Windows platform (sorry Donald).
There is a little know utility called "quotemonster",
available for free download from:
http://www.xmlworks.com/quotemonster/
This utility will download end of day data from yahoo,
as well as historical data.
But which stock tickers to use? How do you allocate
them to sectors (as in AmiBroker)?
May I humbly suggest using the facilities of:
www.marketguide.com
This site offers a free utility called netscreen,
which will allow you to download (into an excel
format), a listing of over 9,500 stock tickers, with
an indicator of which market sector it is in! This may
be imported (quite easily) into AmiBroker, so that you
have the entire NYSA, NASDAQ, etc. classified into
sectors.
This should get the new users up and running in a very
quick manner.
