Greed is constrained by rational counterparty behavior. When there isn’t a valid counterparty to assert their economic interest, rational transactions do not occur. Government, Clinton, Frank, Dodd, Raines, Robert Rubin…..opened the vault for everyone from ACORN to Lehman to pick the taxpayer’s pockets. And they did. Of course, those politicians were paid well for their efforts, they received contributions and were paid in votes for opening up that vault. Now, I get to pay for it.

The really neat one was Robert Rubin, who lobbied for Community Reinvestment Act, reduced credit standards at FNMA//FRE and repeal of Glass Steagall, took the CEO job at CitiBank, 4 DAYS AFTER GLASS STEAGALL WAS NEWTERED IN 1999. He lobbied modernizing Glass Steagall beginning with his testimony before Congress in 1995. 4 days after its being passed, he took a job from the largest main beneficiary, Citibank. Hmmmm.

The government didn't create greed, speculation or human behavior. What we
will now get is more government intervention, which you seem to want, such as
nationalization of industries, banks, etc. Let's hope the next president
turns out to be a benevolent leader like Roosevelt instead of a totalitarian
like Hitler.
