As shown on the chart the entry price to the down move was never hit and neither was the up move entry price.  If you were sort you gave back 6 points that you didn't have to.  Sometime it pays to take profits and step aside.  That takes some of the bias out of the trade because you no longer have a trade to defend.  You could have traded a number of other futures, options or stocks and made a lot more money.  Being an active trader doesn't mean one has to be stuborn about a position.  Always look at what it will take to make you wrong and always protect your profit.  You earned it.

This is precisely my point, Ira.. We have not bottomed and I cannot see going long.

Here is one other thing to take into consideration.  This is option expiration week.  If you don't like that one for staying out of the market until you get a signal try this on for size.  This is also earnings week for Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase and JNJ, INTC,KO, IBM,PFE,UTX,and CAT.  So have fun with these Dow stocks reporting as they are a major force on the S&P also.
