There is a different outlook between and investor and a trader.   You say it isn't over on the downside and I don't care one way or the other.  I don't want to have to decide long term.  If it is rising you own them and if they are falling you short them or own puts.  Your time frame depends on the amount of risk you wish to take and the amount of money you want to make on a move.  There can be a move up of 100 points over a period of time and yet a trade could have made 150, 200 or more points on the same move by trading in the direction of the move as well as the retracements of the move.  It is the system one uses and the trader using it that will determine the degree of success one has.  Two different people can be using the same system and one will make money and the other could lose money.  That happens all the time.

I commend you for your opinion but found that opinion can cost one a lot of money.  Just do what the charts tell you and then you should be just fine.

This is precisely my point, Ira.. We have not bottomed and I cannot see going long.

This was in response to someone's e-mail about the market and vix bottoming.

Here is one other thing to take into consideration.  This is option expiration week.  If you don't like that one for staying out of the market until you get a signal try this on for size.  This is also earnings week for Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase and JNJ, INTC,KO, IBM,PFE,UTX,and CAT.  So have fun with these Dow stocks reporting as they are a major force on the S&P also.
