i trade YM, been w/them 5 yrs, happy w/fills... included
below is a post to another group a while back

IB's support is the worst i have ever seen. Has been for
over 4 years. imo "customer service" is a phrase ib has no
interest in learning.
Earl's comments are right on. You may be able to get
better rates than he mentions if you do reasonable size,
>500RT/mo???, don't remember the details here.
The comment about simulated orders is correct. But if
their connection to the exchange is down when your order
is triggered it will not be executed. They provide the
means to tell where your order is resting, (your
computer/their server/the exchange), so you can determine
if this is a potential issue or not.
The comment about other brokers charging close to IB's
rates as well as providing good phone support is correct.
But it has only become true in the last 18 months, prior
to that no one came close to their price. This support
issue may bite IB someday.
IB trades in markets worldwide, but as a US resident you
are ineligible to trade many of these. If this is an issue
read their web site carefully. Schwab may be a better
choice, call and ask to talk to their international desk
RE this.
IB allows you to trade futures from an IRA you open with
them. It took them 3 tries to get my transfer right, but
there hasn't been a single issue since then.
IB offers qualified investors the opportunity to buy their
8% 15 month paper from them. Historically, they redeem
each series every 3 mo.
i originally went w/IB over 5yrs ago based on price. All i
care about is execution; primarily minis, infrequently
options or stocks. They have an intermittent problem
about 1.5x/yr so support hasn't been an issue. If it was
I'd be long gone. They've stayed competitive, do fix
ongoing problems and have never made an accounting error,
so I'm happy.
Wish i could say the same about Tradestation 8-(. I've
used TS5 (ProSuite2000i) for >5 yrs. It usually crashes on
me several times per day. Tried migrating 1 of my systems
to TS8. It worked while the market was closed. Soon as
data started arriving the next morning it cashed the
computer and erased all indicators and systems.
Hope this helps.
