The phone book isn't the only place where you're address is listed, so
unless your homeless, it's next to impossible to hide where you live.

This has been around for years. The key is if you're listed in
the phone book. If you are listed in the phone book, your address is
given in addition to your phone number. So, one can always go online to
peruse ANY phone book in the country; and then go to a mapping program
that will locate this address. What Google does is combine the
phone/mapping functions into one operation. This is all very
legitimate.
If you are NOT listed in the phone book, then there is no address to
key
on; and, thus, you cannot be located on a map. So, if a child gives out
an unlisted phone number, Google cannot do anything with it. If a child
gives out a LISTED phone number... well, it's public information to
begin with. Hell, if someone wanted to find out exactly where someone
else lived, and if that person's phone is listed in the phone book,
then
that person can be tracked down by a search of the appropriate phone
book. Just a last name will do. (So, do we also not give out our last
name to someone?)
