Bantz,
Call me a cheap mutha but I haven't owned an intel
product for about 10 years (486 dx4100 was the last). I won't be owning any in
the future until AMD goes out of business, if that is to happen. By extention, I
wouldn't own an apple based product for much the same reasons. I would never
pull into a BP/shell gas station to pay more for gas when a no name / cheap gas
company was right across the street, it just doesn't make sense to
me.
I am a very well informed price/performance
purchaser. I wouldn't buy a dell, gateway, vaio,IBM for the very same reasons....
I am cheap and I want the most that I can get for my hard won cash.
If you understand how this crap works (I do) and
then have the chance to open a dell, gateway... you soon find yourself wondering
why anyone would even consider forking over cash for their cheep crap. Most of
the crap sold to the home market is very low quality sold with slick
advertising. What you get is a POS that can barely do what it was intended to
do. From my experiences, most home pc purchasers clog their POS machines with so
much adware within 6 months that they are using the equivalent of a 486 anyway.
How many search bars does one need to find crap on
the internet? Bonzi Buddy? Who's buddy? Certainly not anyone who has ever had a
rational thought.
The advertised systems don't have the power to play
most of the games of any complexity and aren't upgradable (no AGP socket).
They sell these things with a low price and a bunch of empty promises that the
end users are too dumb to figure out anyway.
As for more cpus.... it is the way of the
forseeable future. Hyperthreading, SMP, SMT, dual or more cores... that is where
this goes for the next few years. Cycle efficiency (IPC) is where the future
speed increases will come from because sillycon has been supplying higher walls
for the designers to scale. At 65nm process a typical gate will have fewer than
100 atoms. The gate is approaching the size of it's construction components.
Leakage is becomming such a big problem that intel's last shrink produced a
slower hotter processer instead of a faster cooler smaller
processor.
Apple is having the same problem, can you say water
cooling? The only difference with them is that they charge more for a comparable
product and spend more time making it look cool. If cool is your bag then I
guess apple it is.
More slick advertising...

Curious, since some SMH component firms are awash in
chips, why not put three or four on a mutha board and clean up the
slack,in turn that would create more user demand i.e. 200-300% in future
chip requests.Making everyone happy in the short term...I do
find though that running music software, Protools and Storm 3.0 does chew
upCPU on my Macs...Bantz, just keeps adding
cpus...
