[RT] Stock changes in Dow 30

If I remember correctly, these 3 stocks will be dropped from the DOW 30 tomorrow (4/8/04): EK, IP and T.

And these 3 will be added: AIG, PFE and VZ.

Normally one would expect the stock prices of the stocks being added to an index to go up since the announcement, and those being dropped to go down.  Today's price actions were just the opposite.  The closing prices for AIG, PFE and VZ were all lower than yesterday's closing prices; and EK, IP and T all closed higher than yesterday.

Strange.  Any explanation?
