Thanks Jim.  Your suggestion sounds intriguing
and perceptive, definitely worthy of followup, with emphasis on electronic
markets.

  Bob,
I notice on your chart the use of 10 tic bars. I
have been having great success with 9-tic bars on electronic
  markets.
It occurred to me that the electronic
markets offer an opportunity to truly measure the fractal nature of markets
since the tic size is constant and usually no greater that one tic
differential. It takes a minimum of three tics to create the smallest fractal
structure however, three tic charts are not practical to trade.
The next fractal structure up is 9=tic charts and
  they are tradable.
If you have a good trend reversal indicator and
apply to the 9-tic charts, the results can be entry near tops and bottoms with
small stop loss . Of course with tic charts, time is no longer constant
between bars so inputs to indicators can be screwed up. The percentage of
profitable trades with this approach has been very high but you must monitor
constantly or create a mechanical system to trade it.

  Regards,
  Jim

Just trying to stir up some noise.  By the
way, Clyde has something in the works.  In July 2001 he posted some
encapsulation code and this weekend I had a need to mess with it.  The
result of my suggestions to him was a Constant Range Box, sythetic tick bars
overlayed on tick charts and synthetic time bars ovelayed on time bars and
synthetic time bars overlayed on tick bars.  Now that he has taken it
this far I'll get back to what I was messing with it for....which I am still
not sure of....He took the idea further and looks like he created some
systems with it.  I think we will be hearing more from him on this
after he does some more tweaking.
