As a result of that interest I decided to write a program to
"FindTriangles".
Initially this was just an indicator which drew in the triangles based on
four (4) consecutive pivots which were determined by my Swing_Lee
function and which has been well discussed here and elsewhere.
What I saw, when the indicator was applied, was interesting and then I
proceeded to configure a "system" out of the indicator. In so doing I
made the facility to indicate just the zones of the triangles which did
occur after the detection of the final pivot of the triangle and it is only
in these zones that trades were allowed -- REALTIME equivalent.
The attached two pictures show what this "system" did on the ND for
the past few years. Remember, there is no restrictions on type and/or
shape and/or length of these triangles and yet this very simple
approach was able to yield a profit.
Granted that the drawdown is large but considering there was no
attempt at stoploss or profit taking I think this shows that Triangles
may well have some use in trading.
