First, Windows 95 & 98 have their default
internet connection set for a network connection not for dial up. There
are a number of programs available that will allow you to easily change these
settings. Look for one at <A

Some may even be free. I use InternetBoost but it is not free. This
will help a little. Secondly you should use a memory management
program. Windows does not do a very good job or closing programs and often
leaves parts in memory. You probably can find one at that site also.
I use Memokit (free).
The only reason I can see to not have a high speed
internet connection is that it is not available in your location, either phone
(ADSL) or cable. The cost is usually less than a second phone line.
The maximum speed of a 56K modem is actually 50K. This is regulated by the
FCC. However due to line conditions 40 to 48K would be considered
excellent. Even if your modem (and lines) are at the top of this range you
can have many "dropped packets". Data is transmitted in packets of bits
with checking. If the checking indicates a packet is corrupt, due to
line noise etc. the receiving computer sends a signal requesting
that it be resent. The sending computer then resends the packet and it is
inserted into the data and so on. Even though this happens very
quickly, in relative terms it slows data transmission to a crawl!!!!! DSL
and cable are cleaner and have far less dropped packets in addition to their
higher bandwidth (speed).
If you plan to trade inter-day on tick, one or 5
min. charts, etc. it does not mater how good your software
is. If your computer, internet connection, or broker are slow,
someone will be eating your breakfast, lunch, supper, and midnight
snack.
Good luck and good trading,

data
If I ran TS with no indicators etc......I wouldnt
need it. At this point, my PC seems fine, was just hoping someone could tell
me if my limited bandwith could cause my data to slow during the day. It ran
fine until 930 this morning, then immediately clogged up after the open. I
just bought some great software that really helps with trends....but i cant
use in intraday.

Sean,I have not been keeping up with this thread,
but, if you areusing tradestation, have you tried running TS with only
onesimple workspace that has a single chart and no
indicators? It could be that you have overwhelmed
TS.Regards,Ernie<A
