You can also click on start , click run, type in msconfig and click the startup tab.

Click on start| Program | accessories | System Tools | System info| Software Environment | Start up program | tools | System Configuration | then click on the tab that says Start Up. Now uncheck every program that you are not using. The only ones that I have checked are Tool Bar Display, Scan Registry and System tray.
