sure sounds like a memory problem. it could also be that the memory
is not spec'ed correctly for your computer -- they are rated by the
speed at which the memory bus clocks at. if the stick of ram you got
is too slow for your machine, it could very easily be causing the
problems you are experiencing.
you need to check your computer's specifications (specifically, the
motherboard specs) to find out the correct memory speed -- is it 100
Mhz? 133 Mhz? etc.
you might also want to look on the web to see if you can download any
utilities that will stress-test your entire memory.
if it IS the correct speed for your motherboard, it could simply be
crap memory.
you may need to get advice from a local teenage geek -- or from a
local shop that builds computers.
