It's funny that we never heard this sort of call for justice back during the bubble years. In fact when somebody would dare bring attention to any of the government/corporate corruption they were either ignored or scoffed at. I recall CNBC talking about the hate mail they would receive anytime they or a guest said anything negative about the market or a stock. And there were ample examples of this same behavior/attitude on all of the trading forums.
I recall CNBC having a guest on to discuss Enron paying basically no corporate taxes. The talking heads were trying to engage him into talking about how appalling that was. He said something to the effect of...."You think that's bad, I know of a larger corporation than Enron who also paid basically no corporate taxes last year." They said something like "Oh really, who is that?" He replied "The parent company of CNBC...General Electric." They immediately went to a commercial and he was gone when they returned from the commercial.
It seems to me that the masses operate under the premise of "Don't confuse me with the FACTS, my mind is already made up."
Remember, Clinton got away with all that he did because... "It's about the economy stupid." To me, it's like the public was saying "As long as you grease my palm I'll look the other way." I wonder how tolerant his supporters would be today of his antics if he was still in office and the economy/market was doing this. Oh that's right, to them, this is probably all George Bush's fault.
