An interesting site, albeit I didn't find it made it clear as why such an
approach would be better than a scan that one could write for AIQ.

Over the years, I've done quite a bit of work with NNs and GAs. One of key
issues we found was data quality. However, we built a very successful GA for
Brent trading some years ago. However, it fell into disuse because it was
difficult to keep it fed with high quality data.( a 386/25 was a big machine
then).
I still dabble - one area I'm keen on is the use of GAs for trading system
optimisation which I guess is the sort of thing you might well be looking
for. Have had some experience of Ward system gp. products, but prefer to
roll my own. One system I built recently was a swing length predictor. It
uses the swing length information from Clyde Lee's Pitchfork tool as inputs
to an NN to predict swing length and direction. It delivered a number of
credible results, and one day I might finish it..

However, I prefer to apply simple tools in my trading - it's considerably
more satisfying and enables one to focus on the core purpose i.e. making
money. Work with GAs, NN etc tends to pretty brain bending.

To answer your question, it hasn't been so far (for me) but IMVHO with the
application of serious (team) effort it could be at least as effective as
other trading techniques and probably more so.
