RealTraders,

As many of you know, I moderated this Forum for many years before
Kasanjian Research (the original owners/creators) decided to switch from
their server to a new listserver (Yahoo) and use an
'in house' moderator.  That moderator was supposed to be a gentlemen
by the name of George Limberg (glimberg@xxxxxxxxxxxx).
Unfortunately, I have not heard much from George and have no idea if he
or Kasanjian Research have any interest in continuing to run/moderate
this Forum.

Personally, since my departure nearly two years ago, I have
quietly monitored the Forum from a 'lurkers' perspective, continually
looking for trading gems and valuable insights.  Thanks to Ben, Bob,
Clyde, Norman, John and a few others, this Forum remains an invaluable
aspect to my trading knowledge.

In my opinion, the Forum and its members have held up pretty well,
especially considering the lack of an active moderator, as was the case
when I was in charge.  Some of you may even remember the names of
those who were removed or suspended in an attempt to 'police' this wild
internet chat forum.  (For those that I suspended, and are still
with us, I apologize).

Getting back to the current situation and the possible suggestion
of regrouping on a different listserver:  I tend to believe that
doing so will require more work than you think.  Just moderating the
Forum  requires a lot of time.  And as moderator, that means
you have to read every email from top to bottom.  Looking for
potential member conflicts or stopping someone that is trying to
advertise a product subversively.  The only way to do this
effectively is to address it quickly, before it can fester into a
full-blown forest fire. Something similar to what is taking place
now.  This dedication requires A LOT of time on a continual basis.
Taking off for two or three days or going away for a vacation, you come
back and you have a 1000 email message to read through.  It was hard
work, BUT I will say it was fun..., for the 5 years that I did it.
It felt good   to be able to provide a Forum in which, IMHO,
was one of the best Moderated Trading Forums on the internet with over
1000 members.

Personally, I was and still am a full time trader, committed
trading the markets.  I would be honored if the group wanted me
back  BUT I would have to decline based on the time consumption to
run this Forum.  As you can see, I am beginning to repeat myself but
I really wanted to stress this point.

As former Moderator, what do I proposed we do. For one, I
have  achieved several old RealTrader Objectives and Policy
Directives statements which I could post to the Forum on a regular
basis.  This statement basically established the guidelines which we
followed, and I think it is one of the reasons why this Forum has
continued to exist in a rather professional manner for the last two years
(excluding the present situation), without active moderation.
Second, I would suggest that we see if we can somehow change the 'reply
to' message so that a reply be sent back only to the original sender, NOT
the group, unless they hit the 'reply to all' button.  This would
prevent private communication from going public by accident and also
makes the sender think twice as to whether their post is worthy of being
sent to the Forum.  These proposals, IMO are simply
suggestions/solutions that MAY allow the Forum to regain its
integrity.

I have attached a copy of the RealTrader Objectives and Policy
Directives statements and have made some changes to reflect the new
mantra of the Forum.  If someone else can check into the feasibility
of switching the 'reply to' option, then we will be halfway there.
The other half will come from within us.  Do we have the ability to
self monitor ourselves from the meaningless bickering that often leads to
mindless babble in a Forum in which our primary concern is to discuss
technical trading of the financial markets.

Just some of my thoughts,
John Boggio - Former Moderator

Realtraders,
In an attempt to maintain a superior forum for the serious
trader/investor, please read the following:

RealTraders's objective is to provide a channel of
communication in which the serious/professional trader can freely discuss
current market conditions in a timely and informative manner.  The
primary topics of discussion includes market timing, futures,
stocks, options and mutual funds analyses.  As well as discussions
regarding trading systems, books, methodologies and money
management.  The Forum should be considered as an educational and
learning tool and as such,  all posts  should be
informative and useful to a majority of its
members.    With your help, these objectives
can be met, and the success of this forum will shine on a daily basis.

In order to achieve our goals, the former moderators of this
forum have derived a few policy regulations that we believe will best
enhance the quality of this forum.  PLEASE READ, SAVE AND IMPLEMENT
these strongly recommended suggestions.

**************************************************

NOW FOR OUR POLICIES

1. Each and every post to this forum should have RELEVENT SUBSTANCE,
useful to a majority of its members.  DO NOT send a post to the RT's
Forum just to see your own message 'on-line'.  THIS IS NOT A 'CHAT'
FORUM!!!
2.  If you are going to post a message to the forum, be SPECIFIC and
COMPLETE with respect to the content of your message.  This means
complete sentences and complete thoughts, so that everyone understands
the purpose and intent of your post.
3. Always be courteous and respectful to other members, and their
comments, in this Forum. Flaming (attacking others with insulting
messages) is very common on some mailing lists and has occurred here
in the past.  Such action can not be tolerated on this list
anymore.
4. As a professional courtesy, please sign your messages at the
bottom of your post.
5. Use VERY descriptive "Subject Headings" to introduce your
post.
6 .   In addition, we will also ask that you include one of the
7 abbreviations that best describes the content of your post.

The 8 abbreviations are:

STKS = Stocks

FUTR = Futures

MKT = Market commentary: US, Foreign, Stock and/or Bond

OPTN = Options

GEN = General TRADING RELATED Q's:Books,Systems,Programs,

DAY = DayTraders

PSYCH = The Mental Process of Trading

FOREX = Foreign Exchange Market

These abbreviations should PRECEDE your title
and should be CAPITALIZED.     As an example:

MKT - Technical Analysis S&P500 15minute 03/20/02

or

FUTR - Bonds are forming an interesting pattern 032500.

We will do this in an attempt to assist ALL
members better find posts that they feel will be of most interest to
them.
7.  When responding (Re:'ing: ) a post, please "cut and
paste" ONLY the meat of the post you are referring too.
8.  Very Important: "THANK YOU'S" and non-relevant
"ONE-LINERS" or "JUNK MESSAGES" are NOT to be posted
to the group.  Please send those messages to that person using their
PRIVATE EMAIL ADDRESS.
9. Again, I repeat, each and every post to this forum should have
RELEVENT SUBSTANCE, useful to a majority of its members. Again, avoid
posting "Thanks you's" and "one-liners".  We can
not stress this enough!!!
10. Rude or vulgar language will not be tolerated!

        Finally,
for those of you who say, "so what, I don't care about these
rule...what are they going to do, it's an open Forum".  Well,
you are going to be tagged as pain in the butt and everyone is just going
to put a "block" filter on you as a sender in their email
software program.  Essentially rendering you as non-existent.
So please, let's try to follow the rules and everybody will be
happy!

Thank you for your time and your interest in making RealTraders the
best online forum on the Internet.

Sincerely,
John Boggio (Former Moderator)

PS. ADVERTISING

PART I

        We have
historically had a strict advertising policy and as such, anyone
interested in selling a product or service, should follow these
guidelines:

PART II - Guidelines to the Vendors

RealTraders,

In an attempt to accommodate all members (and vendors) in this
Forum,  we have created
guidelines to assist RealTraders who are genuinely  trying to
"educate" the members of this
Forum about a methodology, system, software program or service that is
for sale or has the potential to be sold.   The reason for this
is that we don't want to snuff out information that RealTrading members
may find useful, just because there is a commercial product associated
with it.

Therefore, here is our policy about commercialism in RealTraders:

1) No one is allowed to post blatant commercial messages on
RealTraders.
There is, nor will there be any change to this rule in the
future.

2)  Very Important: Since RealTraders is about traders
educating and learning from each other, the ban on commercial messages
should not impinge upon the flow of information that is potentially
educational. Therefore, you can post messages of an educational
nature, whether or not you have a product associated with it, as
long as you maintain the intent of educating people and/or communicating
useful information. However, please read point #3 directly below as
to the only acceptable method of making reference to your product
or service.

3. YOUR METHOD OF INFORMING OTHER REALTRADERS ABOUT YOUR PRODUCT OR
SERVICE IS EITHER THROUGH YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS OR THE WEB ADDRESS OF YOUR
HOMEPAGE . THIS URL SHOULD SIMPLY BE PLACED BELOW YOUR SIGNATURE
AND NO REFERENCE SHOULD BE MADE TO IT OR YOUR PRODUCT OR
SERVICE. WE HAVE AN INTELLIGENT GROUP OF TRADERS IN THIS FORUM, AND THEY
ARE SMART ENOUGH TO GO TO THE URL IF THEY WANT FURTHER INFORMATION.

Note: If you wish to post messages on RealTraders which refer to a
product or service that you have available for sale, but you're not sure
whether you're falling within the guidelines, here are some tips to
follow before hitting the send button:

1) Always try to post signals from your system on RealTraders, IN ADVANCE
OF THE EXPECTED MOVE, or give a current market analysis of your
projection. That is information that many members will find useful and
interesting. But remember, you must remain educational with respect to
your forecast/analysis.

2) You must describe your methodology. How does it work? How can other
people apply it right now? Keeping in mind that you are trying to educate
us. Suggestion, consider writing up an explanation of your methodology or
"How to use and interpret it" and include it at the bottom of
your post.

3) Important: If your product is a ‘BLACK BOX’ type, whose
methodology you don't want to reveal, then DON'T bother talking about it
on RealTraders. Doing so will constitute a blatant advertisement.

4) Be factual and quantitative in describing your methodology. Don't use
a lot of adjectives or hyperbole which are telltale signs of commercial
posts.

5) Be coldly objective and point out both the pros and cons. If you tell
us only what's good about your methodology, then you sound like you're
trying to sell us something. Tell us the drawbacks and what we have to be
careful about as well. (You will get more respect from everybody if you
do this anyway).

6) Past performance statistics are the fuel that propels most system
advertising; much of it is B.S. Therefore, you aren't doing us a big
favor by featuring it in your post. You will impress us, however, if you
post real time signals!

7) Rule of thumb: The amount of practical and useful information, or lack
thereof, in your post is inversely proportional to the probability that
your message will be viewed as being commercial in nature.

NOTE:  Members who reply to vendors have an
important role to play as well. If individuals become curious and seek
more information regarding a product, please begin/continue your
discussions with that individual using THE PRIVATE EMAIL CHANNELS. Thus
keeping any "sales" communication off of
RealTraders.

So essentially what does all this mean.  If you are a
vendor, you are going to have to be willing to share, educate and
instruct your fellow members on RealTraders with respect to your
methodology and forecasts.  This includes being open about what
indicator or oscillators you are using and how one would interpret
them.  This might not sound fair but then again this Forum is
privately owned and you are essentially getting free publicity, but at a
price of being more open then you have ever been regarding your system or
service.  And then, all you get to do is list your URL link below
your name. In return, you get to educate your fellow traders in hopes
that they will some day buy or join your service. No teasers of any
sort will be allowed.  Be willing to share or don't bother
trying to sell your product in this Forum!

Finally, since there is a constant addition to the members
list of RealTraders, we will be reposting this message on a regular
basis.

Thank you!
